Playing the victim is very common in today’s society. It is very easy to complain, criticize people and feel sorry for yourself. However, in the long run, it will not help you to build healthy relationships. Why do you have to stop acting like a victim?

1. You Will Have More Control Over Your Life

Victims agree other people monitor their life because they do not take action. For example, if you blame your abusive partner for lack of respect for you, think how much you respect yourself. Have you ever been assertive when he called you names, for example?

Let’s look at a different case. You are not happy with your financial status and complain about your boss. What have you done to change the situation? Have you learned something new to seek a better job? Have you tried to negotiate promotion with your boss? These are only some questions which may help you to become more proactive.

2. You Will Be More Successful At Work Or In Business

Don’t wait for your boss to send your for a course, suggest it yourself. If you are not happy with your job anymore, try to find a new one. You can even change the country to seek more career opportunities.

Work also means doing business. Improving the quality of your services, products, marketing, will help you to find more customers who will pay you more. Think what you could improve today to increase your sales.

3. Your Relationships Will Flourish

Who likes to be around the person, who is always critical, complains and feels sorry for himself/herself? Probably very few people and they might do the same thing. On the other hand, you will be much more attractive to people when you show that challenges are overcome by taking action.

4. You Will Be Healthier

Complaining and holding grudge has an adverse effect to your body. You produce the stress hormones which impede many functions of your organism. Prolonged stress is even responsible for many illnesses, e.g. cancer. When you stop complaining you will be filled with more energy sleep better and eat healthier, and your health problems will decrease.

5. You Will Be Proud of Yourself

Happy and fruitful people have no time for blaming, complaining or criticizing others because they are focused on taking action. Therefore, they can see their progress and be proud of what they have achieved. Think what you have pursued within 12 months and how it contributed to the quality of your life.

6. You Will Grow

You cannot become a better version of yourself playing the victim. Growth means making progress and sometimes hard work, while the victim will avoid responsibility. Even if you can see today that your achievements are none or slight, there is never too late to start a new chapter in your history, creating great things in this world

Summing up. You will still struggle with the payoffs of playing the victim. However, every time you face your payoffs, think what is more worth trouble: being in control of your life or being powerless.
