Create Your Personal Identity

Everyone has heard about ID, You need it while setting up a bank account or dealing with authorities. However, is it your true identity?

Why Do You Need a Real Identity

Your identity is usually defined by the environment – parents, religion, society. But have you ever thought that you could determine your identity yourself? I will show you how to do it.

If you want to check what kind of identity you have, complete these sentences with as many endiungs as possible, without assessment. Do a brainstorm.:

  • I am …
  • I believe (in) …

When you have finished, ask the question for each statement:

Who has installed me this belief? Is it really mine?

In most cases, you will notice that your identity is not truly yours. It is usually a collection of labels, described by your parents, the society religion and scientists.

“Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, man does not lose his being in the society in which he lives. Man’s life is independent. He is born not for the development of the society alone, but for the development of his self.”

B. R. Ambedkar

Change Your identity

In order to change your identity, you need to change your beliefs. Read the articles below to learn how to do it:

Changing your beliefs may take a while. Start from one and you can update your personal ID later.

Your Name And Surname

Think for a while. Do you like the name and surname that has been given to you at birth? If not, you can always change it, even without getting married. Remember that identity is what distinguishes you from everyone else.

Learn about your name in the dictionary. Discover if your name would be described in just three words, or would your narrative consume a page or even a volume of its own?

Now think if you like the meaning of your name. For example, Eve is the mother of life, but according to the Bible, she is also guilty of all the sins on the planet. You probably do not want to be a victim of your name, don’t you?

Also, your name may be used by someone who you dislike, e.g Victoria. The Queen or David Beckham’s wife may repulse you. The same applies to some historic figures, especially Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin.

Check each meaning thoroughly and decide if the name you were given at birth suits you. If not, check the options in your country when and how you can change it, e.g. by Deed Poll.

Right now, write down the definition you would find if you were to look up your name in a dictionary.

What Else Can You Change

Surname. And I do not mean getting married in case of women. Your identity may be also changed by Deed Poll, especially if your surname is insulting.

In the case of religion, you can define yourself differently, e.g as “spiritual but not religious”. In the case of the Catholic Church, you can even declare to leave it by apostasy.

Your marital status. Obviously, marriage can be ended by divorce. But, you do not need to take this step. Just name it differently if marriage means enslavement to you. Also, in some languages “single” is described as “lonely” (e.g in Polish) so use the euphemism to think about this martial state positively.

Now create your ID card. It will represent who you truly are. What would be on it? Will you include a picture or not? What about your vital statistics? Will you list your physical description, your accomplishments, your emotions, your beliefs, your motto or your abilities? Take a moment to describe what would be on this identity card, and also list what would be omitted, to show someone who you are.

You can also change the names of your life roles. “Wife” may be associated with housework and submission, so use the “spouse” or “my other half” instead. The same applies to your job or family roles (parent, child, sibling).

My Personal ID

Now the time has come for you to change your identity. After collecting all the necessary information, use the table below to define your new identity.

My name’s definition (e.g. in the dictionary, in the media, by religion)
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Who I am according to own judgement ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

For example, My name is Victoria. It means “the winner, responsible for her life, being able to cope with all challenges – on my own or with the help of other people.” I am a wonder, a beautiful being who ascended to this planet to create a lot of positive changes here. My mission is to help other people through education and own example of how to be a decent person.

Do not make your personal identity description too long, but contain some details which will distinguish you from other people somehow.
